Projects

In spite of the fact that the official Amrutasya ma Narmada Pad Parikrama ended on March 8, 2023, the Mother Narmada's parikrama will continue in numerous ways for the foreseeable future. The Ma Narmada Gyan Peeth, under the guidance of Vivek ji, has begun implementing improvements in these areas.

Restoration of the Teerthas

The Pairkrama of Vivek ji's most significant contribution was the revitalization of the Teerthas that adorned the banks of the holy Narmada, and the first step in this direction is to restore the Teerthas themselves, making them once again an integral part of our culture and not only the sacred texts. Vivek ji has spoken at length on the topic, and a book is now being released that details the teerthas in greater detail than has previously been possible. However, with this revelation comes additional responsibility, since the teerthas will require extensive maintenance and upkeep.

Many teerthas go unvisited since neither outsiders nor locals are aware of them, and even if they are, their histories are not provided and their contexts are not discussed. In order to ensure that all parikramvasis have up-to-date information on the teerthas before setting out on the parikrama a book will help but while in the parikrama the board will ensure that they notice it. The first step in this direction is to construct a notice board in each and every teertha that adorenbd the banks of Holy Narmada.

The teerthas, according to the Skandha puran and various other Purana and Samhitas , have been there since the time immortals, but the locals and the parikramvasis, who lack this knowledge, fail to realise that they are walking through a piece of timeless history. Only in the Narmada belt can one find the temples which preserve the sacred scriptures that detail the origins of Sanatan Dharma; hence, it is of the utmost importance that we establish these teerthas, as it was because of them that the Narmada parikrama was initiated.

Ma Narmada Gyan Peeth proposes to erect permanent boards explaining the origins and significance of the teerthas to guarantee that the parikramvasis or locals are aware of their existence. The idea is to put up informational boards at most teerthas, like the one that was constructed at the Devpath teertha after Vivek ji's parikrama, which marked the beginning of the Divine Deities' parikrama.

Because of Vivek ji's efforts which locals helped greatly to educate the public about the temple's past—including the discovery of the Devpath teertha—the temple has been slowly being restored to its former glory.

The first step in restoring the many teerthas around the Narmada that have fallen into disrepair is to form a team and institute a schedule of regular puja and maintenance.

Publication

Skanda Purana and Vayu Purana (Reva Khanda) provide the bulk of our knowledge about the Teerthas that dot the banks of Holy Mother Narmada. There has to be an immediate reprinting and Hindi/English translation. For the sake of future generations who may be sceptical of the facts and history presented in the writings of our religions, it is crucial that these two fundamental documents, Reva Khanda, be translated and published. There will be multiple translations and volumes published of the work, which has been translated by Vivek ji. It is imperative that all of the texts that have been written on the Narmada—including the extensive material presented in various Rishi's sanhitas and the numerous other shastras that make reference to the holy Narmada—be collected into a single monumental work that preserves the history of the river for future generations.

Food and shelter.jpg

Food and shelter

Wonderful arrangements of food and shelter can be found in several locations along the banks of the Parikrama, with the exception of the more remote and difficult Shulpani and Mandala-Dindori districts.  One of the experiments in Shulpani will begin in 2023, as will others in the Mandla and Dindori regions. Ma Narmada Gyan peeth aims to establish enough centres where provision can be made accessible at least sop people can have food and spend the night in peace.

Vegetation and trees

Most of the riverbanks of the Narmada are treeless, and those that  aren't likely to survive the long haul even if they are. One of the most challenging things in Gujrat and Maharastra and most of Madhya Pradesh, where relief from the sun is hard to find, and bare banks of Holy Mother posses a challenge for ecological balance. The tree-planting programme that many nonprofit organisations/ government organizations have pledged but failed to carry out. In this experiments Parikamavasis will be handed seed balls by the Ma Narmada Gyan Peeth before they set out on their parikrama and even during, and it is expected that they will plant at least five of these balls so that they can grow into trees and provide shade and shelter for future parikamavasis. When seeds balls grow into trees along the banks of the Narmada, they act as anchors for the soil and green vegetation has a positive effect on the biological balance of the Holy Banks. We, the people, cannot always wait for government entities to accomplish what needs doing.

Sharing and caring

Mother Narmada's parikrama is not done for selfish reasons, but it does mean that we must give our all along her banks. There are some very poor areas along the Narmada River where resources like food and school supplies are essential. During the parikrama, Vivek ji distributed clothes, books, notebooks, and Nutri-food to the needy from the supplies he had brought with him. As a nation, we have an obligation to preserve Mother Narmada and her spiritual legacy by investing as much effort as possible in this belt.

Each year, Ma Narmada Gyan Peeth will amass these supplies (not limited to) for the regions to distribute within the parikrama belt.

Parikrama path mapping

To help others follow in his footsteps, Vivek ji mapped out the entire parikrama route, including all of the Teerthas that line the banks of the Narmada. There is a basic problem of not knowing where to walk from in most of the Narmada belt if the signage isn't there; even in the 21st century, sometimes Google Maps gives very wrong information of the walking routes, and if the locals hadn't walked, they'd end up giving very wrong information, and this is a great headache for the prirkamavaiss.

Vivek ji always recognised that having a parikrama map would make a number of things simpler: first, parikramvasis would know where to begin their trip, and second, anything from constructing restrooms to securing food could be done along the path. As a result, the parikramvasis can once again follow their sanatana traditions by not only walking on the road, as is customary, but also from the banks of holy Narmada, where the teerthas are located.

Some paths along the parikrama have already been marked by locals, and the Gyan peeth would be tasked with marking the remaining paths. Vivek ji said that a mobile application of the parikrama trail would be developed. It's also worth noting that in today's technological age, the map application will serve as the next foundation, complementing the traditional roadside signage.

Toilets.jpg

Toilets

There are plenty of great places to eat and sleep while on parikrama, but finding clean restrooms, especially for women, is often a challenge.

Most parikrama routes have wonderful establishments for food and shelter, with a few exceptions; however, toilets are lacking, and the local government is unwilling to erect anything for only five or six months of the year; as a result, the parikrama path is littered with filth, which is not a pleasant sight.

The goal of Ma Narmada Gyan peeth is to build as many lavatories and restrooms as possible for the parikramvavsis so that we can maintain a clean parikrampath.
